FLEET
The New Castle Sailing Club owns a fleet of thirteen sailboats: eight Thistle sailboats and five Flying Scot sailboats. Thistles and Flying Scots are One Design class boats. They have a mainsail and jib, and can fly a symmetrical spinnaker. The boats have a retractable centerboard.
The Thistles are 17 feet in length and can hold 2 to 3 adults. These boats are very responsive to the wind; and are great for racing. They are also used for day sailing, especially in light winds.
The Flying Scots are 19 feet in length and can hold 2 to 6 adults. They are great for cruising and are more stable in stronger winds.
The club also has a motorboat, a 20 foot flat bottom whaler, which is used for officiating club races, supporting day cruises, and assisting in the launching and haul out of the fleet.
The sailboats are kept offshore during the sailing season at anchored moorings. Members row out to the boats using one of the twelve small rowboats (Dinghies) that are stored in a dinghy house onshore. The rowboat is then left at the mooring until the day sail is over.

The fleet is owned by the New Castle Sailing Club, and club members care for and maintain the boats during the off season. The club also owns a clubhouse and barn where the Thistles are kept indoors and the Flying Scots are kept outdoors under protective covers during the winter months.
